“Live a good life. COPD is not a death sentence!”
 |
Yes, COPD may well
scare the Devil out of those who have this dread
disease, but it does not need to kill them.
This book provides practical information about
living a good life with lung disease. It is
written from the viewpoint of a knowledgeable
patient. Like 13 million others, I have COPD
(all three major components: Asthma, Emphysema
and Chronic Bronchitis). I have chosen to share
my knowledge and experiences with other COPDers
in hopes of easing their burdens as well as
that of their families, friends and the caregivers
who help them.
Written in layman
terms, you will begin to understand the disease,
impacts on the body, medications, medical processes,
plus the medical and support staffs. Using humorous
vignettes and poetry, there is an uplifting
message while sharing knowledge about early
signs of the ailment, diagnosis, treatment,
an LVRS operation (Lung Volume Reduction Surgery),
recovery and pulmonary rehabilitation. Intermingled
stories tell of coping with most aspects of
having this disease, dealing with anxiety, stress,
some of my dumb mistakes, frustrations, life
changes and family. It is an honest, often humorous
look at my trials and errors, the value of caregivers,
plus the impacts on those around them.
For
newly diagnosed patients, friends and family,
this is just like a ‘COPD primer’. I have included
a 'Resource Guide' and 'Glossary of Terms' to
help get you started on the right track of understanding.
For accuracy, my medical and support teams validated
all materials and encouraged my publication.
You can return here for updates.
I invite you to laugh
at my foolishness, mistakes and naivete while
you learn about living with COPD. Most importantly,
I invite you to read the book and learn to live
with COPD.
